The Aerospace Plane Research Center was established to create the fundamental technologies required for high-speed, high-altitude flight in the atmosphere.
The university is equipped with facilities such as the Shiraoi Engine Test Site, capable of testing rocket engines up to one ton in weight, the largest supersonic wind tunnel of any university in Japan, and the only high-speed running track in Japan, and is conducting in-house research as well as joint research with JAXA, heavy industry manufacturers, and other universities.
The Shiraoi Engine Test Site is located in a rich natural environment, 45 minutes by car from our Mizumoto Campus. Various field tests can be conducted on the site of approximately 1.5 hectares (300m x 50m). Although the climate is relatively cool, there is little snowfall in Hokkaido, so the site is operated year-round.
In addition, we will set up a satellite office in Taiki Town from the 2020 academic year to accelerate joint research with Interstellar Technologies and on-campus project research, as well as contribute to the Hokkaido Spaceport Initiative.
Furthermore, we are working on the creation of the Linear Hyper-G environmental academic field, and are working to establish a joint research center for this research.
